Books in Paradise #17

Time goes by so fast, especially if you have two little children and the weather outside is frightful. Everything is white and today it's raining here - wtf! Allright, back to the Books in Paradise post and the new books around my shelves.

bought, received for review

This week my postman brought to me two books of three I ordered last week and one german review copy - Strange Days 3 by Fred Ink, thanks to the author and publisher! Now let's have a look on my new gems in my shelf:

Blue has spent the majority of her sixteen years being told that if she kisses her true love, he will die. When Blue meets Gansey's spirit on the corpse road she knows there is only one reason why - either he is her true love or she has killed him. Determined to find out the truth, Blue becomes involved with the Raven Boys, four boys from the local private school (lead by Gansey) who are on a quest to discover Glendower - a lost ancient Welsh King who is buried somewhere along the Virginia ley line. Whoever finds him will be granted a supernatural favour. Never before has Blue felt such magic around her. But is Gansey her true love? She can't imagine a time she would feel like that, and she is adamant not to be the reason for his death. Where will fate lead them?

Once a Witch by Carolyn MacCullough

Tamsin Greene comes from a long line of witches, and she was supposed to be one of the most Talented among them. But Tamsin's magic never showed up. Now seventeen, Tamsin attends boarding school in Manhattan, far from her family. But when a handsome young professor mistakes her for her very Talented sister, Tamsin agrees to find a lost family heirloom for him. The search—and the stranger—will prove to be more sinister than they first appeared, ultimately sending Tamsin on a treasure hunt through time that will unlock the secret of her true identity, unearth the sins of her family, and unleash a power so vengeful that it could destroy them all. This is a spellbinding display of storytelling that will exhilarate, enthrall, and thoroughly enchant.

I read...

This week I haven`t read what I wanted to read. On Thursday I had to lie down in bed all day, I was violently ill. So I only read a short story by Melissa Marr and an amazing chick lit novel:

I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella

I've lost it. :( The only thing in the world I wasn't supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It's been in Magnus's family for three generations. And now the very same day his parents are coming, I've lost it. The very same day Do not hyperventilate, Poppy. Stay positive :) Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry her ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her "happily ever after" begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring in a hotel fire drill but in the panic that follows, her phone is stolen. As she paces shakily around the lobby, she spots an abandoned phone in a trash can. Finders keepers Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect. Well, perfect except that the phone's owner, businessman Sam Roxton, doesn't agree. He wants his phone back and doesn't appreciate Poppy reading his messages and wading into his personal life.

What I'm reading next...

Next week I'm going to read the next short story in Faery Tales & Nightmares by Melissa Marr, called Transition, the german book Strang Days 3 and I want to re-read My Soul to Save by Rachel Vincent, because I haven't done my review for it.

Aubrey Van Houten just turned 15 and everything he thinks he knows is about to change. Aubrey lives five miles underground in a government facility called Holocene II where he has been taught that his people are the only survivors of a global nuclear war. Believing Earth’s surface uninhabitable, the residents of Holocene II begrudgingly live and work assigned jobs on separate subterranean levels until they can retire at 35 to a virtual reality paradise. But when he stumbles onto the surface and discovers a real paradise off limits: a pristine planet where humans are hunted and killed by a mysterious Park Service. Alone in a world he never dreamed existed, Aubrey must learn to survive while searching for answers to why everything he was taught is a lie.
